I’ve been working in ML and software since 2022. A bit of research, a bit of web development, and a lot of things I didn’t expect to be doing when I started. Here are the places I’ve worked.
I spend half my time explaining AI to humans, and the other half explaining humans to code. I work with companies to apply technology where it actually provides value. Most of the time it’s AI (I’m known for it lol). So far that’s included subtitling for 1,000+ hours of video across 10 languages, an AEMO energy trading system, and a POS and kiosk platform.
Here I built automations and web apps that solve real problems. Mostly Django, with payment integrations handling $200K+ a month. I also looked after the GCP infrastructure, Docker, Terraform, and deployment pipelines.
One of the more exciting times of my career. Plenty of late nights and overnighters developing ML for battery health and lifecycle prediction. Ever heard of anyone trying to get a Vision Transformer to work with spectrograms of large time series? :D Slightly dumb, I know, but that’s half the fun. I also got to dive into the supply chain and talk to a lot of interesting people.
Large-scale remote sensing (NDA). I developed end-to-end ML for environmental monitoring serving banking and retail companies. This included satellite data pipelines, emissions modelling, and adapting land-classification models to Australian conditions.
My first and most loved role. Here I built high-altitude balloon gondola systems for real-time computer vision on board, for environmental monitoring and early detection. The work included hardware, firmware, MLOps with AWS, fieldwork, and some physics-based software. Basically what you’d expect from a startup haha.
